Just a few months after hosting the FEI World Cup Finals for the first time in its history, CHI Basel is already preparing to do it again. From 5 to 9 April 2028, the Swiss city will once again host the finals of the legendary International Equestrian Federation (FEI) show jumping, dressage and vaulting circuit.
Last April, the intercontinental event ended with victory for Normandy's Julien Épaillard and Donatello d'Auge in show jumping, and Charlotte Fry and Glamourdale in dressage. This sporting and organisational success clearly convinced the FEI. Just nine months after this first edition, the latter has once again awarded the organisation of the event to the city at the three borders.
In a press release, the competition's organising committee commented on this decision: ‘Thanks to the successful organisation and extremely positive response to the first finals held in Basel, it quickly became clear that we wanted to submit our bid for a new edition.’ Thomas Straumann, President of the Organising Committee and CHI Classics Basel, said he was particularly proud of this renewal: "We are very happy to be able to organise this major sporting event again after such a short time. We would like to thank the International Equestrian Federation and our national federation for the trust they have placed in us. We are very motivated to set high standards once again in 2028 and to offer a world-class competition."
The enthusiasm is shared by Swiss Equestrian. Its president, Damian Müller, sees this award as a strong signal for Swiss equestrian sport: " The awarding of the World Cup Finals to Basel is a clear recognition of the commitment, competence and excellent work of the organising committee. It is a great honour to host this premier event in Switzerland again after 2025. Basel is thus once again becoming a hub for international equestrian sport, serving athletes, horses and the entire Swiss Equestrian family. ”
The host city shares this enthusiasm. For Conradin Cramer, President of the Government of Basel-Stadt, this new award is a logical continuation: “We are proud to host the FEI World Cup Finals for the second time. With the Longines CHI Classics, Basel has established itself as a stronghold of international equestrian sport since 2010. The success of the first edition of the finals last April, followed by this new award for 2028, is the crowning glory of this success story. This event contributes significantly to the international reputation of the city of Basel."
