Nicola Philippaerts confirmed his strong form of recent weeks with a brilliant victory in the five-star Grand Prix of Tryon (USA). Riding the only nine-year-old Gadget Mouch, he delivered clear rounds in both the initial course and the jump-off, setting the fastest time. The result marks his first five-star win since Mexico 2024 and highlights the rise of his promising gelding.
In Tryon, USA, Philippaerts competed with his young talent Gadget Mouch (Andiamo Semilly). The pair jumped an impressive double clear in a thirteen-horse jump-off. With his typically controlled yet fast ride, Philippaerts left the competition behind and claimed the win.
“It’s incredible to see how much progress Gadget Mouch has made over the past few weeks,” Philippaerts said afterward. “In Calgary, he jumped 1m60 fences for the first time and stayed remarkably calm. In New York, he went clear, and now he’s winning again. For such a young horse, he’s doing exceptionally well.”
Gadget Mouch, who has only recently stepped up to this level, possesses a rare mix of composure, power, and intelligence, according to Philippaerts. “He’s starting to really understand the big jumps and picks things up very quickly. He’s focused in training and naturally fast in the ring. That makes all the difference.”
For Philippaerts, the victory is more than just a sporting milestone. It comes during a period of consistently strong performances with multiple horses. “It feels great to win again at this level. You don’t win a five-star Grand Prix every week, especially not with a horse that’s still developing. That makes this victory extra special.”
The Belgian rider expressed gratitude for the structure and support within his family and team. “At home, we have a strong system and a lot of knowledge. My father and brothers are always involved, and that helps us bring young horses step by step to the top level.”
