Julien Gonin’s top mare, Estrella de la Batia, has passed away. "Just like in the arena, you kept fighting until the end..."

On his social media, French showjumper Julien Gonin announced the passing of his top horse, Estrella de la Batia. The 11-year-old mare died due to complications following a fracture. "Estrella suffered a fracture while in the stable. During surgery, an aggressive bacterium developed. She fought until the end..." the French rider shared.

"Just like during her rounds, she proved she was a true fighter, and we fought alongside her. Unfortunately, fate decided otherwise." The mare had been with Gonin since she was six years old. Together, they progressed to the highest level. Last year, the pair claimed victory in a 1.50m class at the CSIO5* Spruce Meadows. In Lyon, they also won the 1.50m Prix Groupama.

"You were an exceptional partner with whom I built a beautiful journey since your arrival at the stable. We miss you immensely, but I know you will watch over all your stablemates..."

Our condolences to Julien Gonin and Estrella's team...
