Just before the drones took to the sky for a spectacular show, former Olympic champion Ben Maher denied Belgium’s Jérôme Guery the 1.50m main win in Brussels. Maher claimed victory with his 14-year-old KWPN mare, Ginger Blue (breeder: P. Verberne).
Maher and the 14-year-old daughter of Plot Blue jumped to victory in 66.05 seconds. “Ginger Blue was truly fantastic. She did everything I expected of her,” said Maher afterwards. “To start the week like this feels really good! I’m looking forward to the rest...”
The pair finished just under two seconds ahead of Jérôme Guery with the 14-year-old gelding Careca LS Elite (Carusso LS La Silla). Guery continues his strong form today: “Today was really a good day. At a show like this, starting with such a result is truly great! I can only hope the weekend continues this way,” Guery beamed.
For a long time, Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi led the standings. Riding Al Shira’AA Stables’ 11-year-old stallion Chacco Bay (Chaccato), he eventually finished in third place.
Just outside the top three followed Christian Ahlmann with d’Aganix 2000 Z (Dominator 2000 Z), ahead of Rene Lopez Lizarazo with the 11-year-old Londina (London).
