The CSIO5 Grand Prix of Barcelona delivered exciting show jumping right up until the last combination entered the arena.* Twelve combinations started the second round of the 1.60m course. As the last to start, Michael Pender and his Irish-bred HHS Calais (Cavalier Royale) jumped to victory. "I'm Delighted winning here in Barcelona," Pender says.
Pender and the son of Cavalier Royale, as the last starters, narrowly beat the time of Rolf-Göran Bengtsson and the 12-year-old Zuccero HV (VDL Zirocco Blue). In front of his home crowd, Armando Trapote completed the top three with his 13-year-old Toulon son, Tornado VD.
Trapote and his gelding relegated Henrik von Eckermann with the 14-year-old BWP gelding, King Edward (Edward), to fourth place. Also double clear, Stephan de Freitas Barcha completed the top five in the saddle of the 13-year-old Chevaux Primavera Imperio Egipcio (Calvaro F.C).
