On the opening day of the CSI5*-W in A Coruña, the 1.45m Checkpoint Trophy immediately turned into a triumph for both the Netherlands and Belgium. Dywis HH and Jarina J emerged as the clear standouts in a class featuring seventeen clear rounds within a remarkably tight time window, keeping the suspense alive until the final combination.
Victory went to Maikel van der Vleuten, who set the pace from the outset with the fourteen-year-old Toulon mare Dywis HH. His clear round in 59.72 seconds set an early benchmark that proved unreachable for the rest of the field.
Close behind followed Pieter Devos, who guided the eleven-year-old Jarina J (Cicero Z van Paemel) to a smooth and faultless 61.26 seconds, securing the only Belgian clear round in the class.
With Milky Way 111 (De Flor 111 Z), Victor Bettendorf claimed third place after producing an effortless ride that stopped the clock at 61.77 seconds. Just one hundredth slower, the Spanish pair Icenta del Maset (Indret del Masset) finished in 61.80 seconds, earning a strong fourth place and delivering the home crowd its first top result of the weekend.
Leopold van Asten completed the top five. Aboard VDL Groep Kwienbellie (Toulon), he maintained a sharp rhythm and delivered another clear in 62.20 seconds, securing yet another notable Dutch performance.
