The news of his passing was announced by Almqvist through an emotional tribute on social media:

"The finest little brown horse I know is now galloping forever on the green meadows. As heartbroken as I feel, I am equally infinitely grateful to have been a part of his journey for so many years. Thank you Lunatic, for letting me be your person. Thank you for all the adventures you took me on, all the memories you gave me, and for everything you taught me. I wouldn't be the person I am today without you, and for that, I will be forever grateful to you."

A illustrious career

Throughout his sporting career, Lunatic left an indelible mark on international showjumping. Together with Jens Fredricson, he formed a cornerstone for the Swedish team for years. One of the absolute highlights of their career was competing at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, where they achieved a commendable 26th place individually and finished 6th with the Swedish squad.

The following year, the combination continued their successful streak. At the 2013 FEI World Cup Final in Gothenburg, they jumped to 12th place overall. That same year, they achieved their greatest success at the European Championship in Herning, playing a vital role in securing the team bronze medal while placing 6th individually.

Following his final international appearance in 2014 at the CSI3* in Stockholm, the gelding officially entered his retirement with Almqvist, who surrounded him with love until his final days.
