Peter Wylde: "You can never skip flatwork! It's the basic..."

Many riders just want to jump horses, but often forget about the basics. In a recent interview with Sergio Alvarez Moya, the Brazilian rider discussed the problem, riders can just buy-in into a CSI5* level. Also USA's Peter Wylde notices riders often try to skip steps in their aim to jump up to a higher level. "What sets successful riders apart is not their result," Wylde says. "It is the training they do at home..."

In a blog Wylde says some confuse the simple with the 'boring'. "When you go to an European CSI5* event, visit the warm-up in the morning, before the classes start you will see why flatwork is key. You will see the riders bonding and working on control, impuls or even relaxation of the horse."

"They work on establishing quiet, seamless communications between horse and rider. As this will help them into riding smoother jumping courses." According to the USA rider the basics are often forgotten. "Simple excercises do not only help you understand the language of your horse, it helps the rider to communicate. To respond on a protest or slow reaction without brutally enforcing the riders will."

Jumping is what we all love

"Given, jumping is what we all love, but the art of riding a perfect course is what you manage in between the obstacles. When you master a full control and respect from your horse, you will be able to flawlessly ride the jumping course of your life!"
