After years of international success and impressive achievements in show jumping, Coby 8, the 15-year-old top horse of Philipp Weishaupt, can now enjoy his retirement. The duo, known for their consistent top performances, waved their goodbyes in Valkenswaard, after which he will depart for the United States to enjoy his retirement.
German rider Philipp Weishaupt has bid farewell to his sport partner Coby 8 (Contagio x Escudo 19). The 15-year-old gelding has made his final jumps at the highest level and is now heading to the US, where he will enjoy his retirement with owner Alice Lawaetz.
Weishaupt and Coby competed internationally for the last time in early August at the show in Valkenswaard. Earlier this year, the duo won the CSI4* World Cup in Doha, and in December 2024 they claimed victory in the CSI5* World Cup in La Coruña, Spain.
The partnership between Weishaupt, Coby, and groom Lisa began in the summer of 2019. Since then, they have achieved countless victories, amassing an impressive total of €2.27 million in prize money. With wins in World Cup competitions and 5* Grand Prix events, Coby was known as a reliable and consistent force within Team Riesenbeck International, always delivering clear rounds at crucial moments.
“We have achieved so much together,” says Weishaupt. “Coby is not only an exceptional sport horse but also a special character who has become dear to all of us. Thanks to Alice, he was able to spend his entire international career with me. Now it is time for him to enjoy his well-earned rest.”
