The crowd in Mexico City witnessed top-tier sport during the 1.60m Longines Global Champions Tour Grand Prix. Following an eleven-horse jump-off, Piergiorgio Bucci leaped to victory with the Dirk Nevejant-bred Pallieter vd N. Ranch.
Eleven combinations started in the jump-off of this Grand Prix. Ultimately, Piergiorgio Bucci recorded the winning time with the 11-year-old BWP stallion, Pallieter vd N. Ranch (Cornet Obolensky). The pair jumped to victory in 43.68 seconds. For the Italian, it marks his first-ever LGCT Grand Prix win.
"A truly fantastic feeling here. It’s special because I actually felt like I was a bit too slow, especially compared to yesterday when I thought I was super fast and ended up fourth," Bucci laughed afterwards. "Pallieter is a truly fantastic horse; I can't thank him enough for his effort. I felt him blossom when the crowd cheered him on so enthusiastically!"
Earlier this week, Bucci and the stallion also secured the win for the St Tropez Pirates in the Global Champions League. For a moment, Katrin Eckermann seemed on her way to her second consecutive LGCT Grand Prix victory. However, the German rider couldn't match Bucci's tight turns. Together with the 13-year-old Iron Dames Dialou Blue PS (Diarado's Boy), Eckermann finished in second place in 45.04 seconds.
Simon Delestre completed the Grand Prix podium with the 10-year-old SF gelding, Golden Boy DK (Diamant de Semilly). Just outside the top three, Sara Vingralkova followed with the nine-year-old BWP gelding, Rock'n Roll MXL (Denzel v't Meulenhof).
The top five was rounded out by Duarte Seabra and the 13-year-old Diarado son, Dourados 2.
