"Following an examination by my vet, Londina needed urgent surgery for a diaphragmatic hernia. Unfortunately, the procedure went wrong, and we were unable to save her," a visibly shaken Lopez shared. "This is a monumental loss. Saying goodbye to this amazing mare is incredibly hard for us. She meant so much more to our team than just the sport."

The charming chestnut mare—a daughter of Carembar de Muze (Glock’s London) out of a Chacco-Blue dam—was owned by Bertrand Darier, a close friend and longtime partner of the rider.

Impressive Track Record

Londina began her international career under the Swiss flag with Clarissa Hassmann Crotta, but her major breakthrough came after teaming up with Lopez in early 2022. The pair proved to be a match made in heaven, stringing together an impressive series of successes.

In addition to multiple podium finishes in 2* and 3* Grands Prix and a second-place finish in the Six-Bar competition at the CSI 4* in Gassin (2024), the duo achieved their absolute crowning glory at the highest level.

The sudden loss also leaves a deep hole from a sporting perspective. Lopez and Londina were considered mainstays for the Colombian team and were strong contenders for selection for the World Championships in Aachen, scheduled for next month.
