Iván Serrano was the brilliant winner of the Casas Novas Grand Prix Marqués de Riscal Trophy, the most important event at CSI4* A Coruña 2026. The Basque rider and “Rain Man” triumphed in the jump-off of the competition, contested over 1.60-metre fences, with a spectacular round.
On Friday, they had already won the first major class at CSI4* A Coruña 2026, the CaixaBank Trophy, and they rounded off the competition by winning the third day’s class, a high-calibre Grand Prix that was decided in a jump-off for which 15 pairs qualified and in which only five managed a clear round. Among them, Iván Serrano and Rain Man (Chacco-Blue, breeder: S. Schmid) stood out with a time of 40.58 seconds, well ahead of the rest.
The rider from Biscay, who is based at Yeguada del Pas in Cantabria and has a wealth of experience, as does his veteran horse “Rain Man”, took risks in the jump-off as if it were a less demanding class, and his strategy paid off perfectly, setting a time that proved unbeatable for the rest of the field.
The podium at the Casas Novas Grand Prix was an all-Spanish affair, with Bautista Rodríguez Debray finishing second on Vivoulette HD (Vivant) in 43.56 seconds and Pilar Lucrecia Cordón third aboard Pica Pica Z in 44.69 seconds.
The other two double clears in the class came from Maikel Van der Vleuten, fourth with Jesther (Cardento) in 48.08 seconds, and another Spanish pair, Carlos López-Fanjul Tartiere with Jourdain VDL (Zapatero) in 49.06 seconds.
