Surprising Absentees from European Championship Longlist: “Saving Horses for Aachen and the Worlds”

Oxersport, the organizing body behind the FEI European Show Jumping Championships, announced the longlist of participants on Thursday, June 19. Notably, several top horse-and-rider combinations are absent, an unexpected development. For many riders, the timing of the event is just not right. “Our horses are valuable, and we don’t want to overwork them. Besides, this European Championship doesn’t count as a qualifier for the 2028 Olympic Games…” is a commonly heard sentiment.
