On Saturday evening, The Reindeer Speed Stakes took place in London, an international 1.50m speed class counting for the Longines Ranking. In a race against the clock, it came down to rhythm, agility and the smallest of time margins.
Victory went to Luxembourg’s Victor Bettendorf with the Zangersheide mare Cancun Torel Z (Cosinhus), bred by François-Xavier Guyard. The pair delivered a faultless round and stopped the clock in the winning time of 58.34 seconds.
Jack Whitaker took second for the home crowd in Great Britain with Valmy de la Lande (Mylord Carthago HN), also clear, in 59.14 seconds. Third place went to Spain’s Álvaro González de Zárate Fernández with Casa Diva PS (Casallco), who likewise jumped clear and finished in 59.28 seconds.
Just off the podium, Germany’s Marcus Ehning finished fourth with Baloubets Rose de Boeken (Baloubet du Rouet) after a faultless run in 59.73 seconds, while France’s Kevin Staut completed the top five with Hermes de Vesquerie (Vigo d’Arsouilles) in 60.34 seconds, again without penalties.
