The course in Hickstead proved to be highly technical. Only four combinations made it to the jump-off, and it was Robert Whitaker aboard Vermento (Argento) who managed to be the fastest.
A total of 46 combinations came to the start in Hickstead. Ten riders chose to retire early during the first round of the CSIO5* Grand Prix, leaving the arena before completing their course. Only four pairs jumped clear in that first round and earned a ticket to the jump-off.
Gold went to Robert Whitaker aboard Vermento (Argento), who were nearly a second faster than Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi with Enjoy de la Mure (Vigo Cece), who took home silver. The bronze was claimed by Jordan Coyle riding Chaccolino (Chacco-Blue).
Donald Whitaker just missed the podium after a miscommunication in the jump-off aboard Di Caprio (Diarado). Fifth place went to Cian O'Connor with Canbella Blue PS (Cantolar), who picked up a single time fault in the first round.
