The board of CHIO Rotterdam decided to cancel the international equestrian event which was scheduled for June 18 - 21, 2020 due to the coronavirus crisis. The 72nd edition is now postponed to June 24 - 27, 2021.
"With the current situation in our country and the rest of the world and the uncertainty for the next coming months it should be irresponsible to continue the preparations and financial obligations for the upcoming CHIO Rotterdam", says Ron Voskuilen, general director of CHIO Rotterdam. "We currently investigate if it is feasible to organize some smaller local activities after summer to ensure we maintain the CHIO momentum."
"We are very, very sorry but in these circumstances we have to take responsibility for health of the public, competitors, VIP guests, sponsors, volunteers, partners and everyone else involved and it is best to take such a difficult decision in an early stage", says Theo de Rooij, president of CHIO Rotterdam. "This is a very different start of my new role than I hoped for, but it is an exceptional situation. The complete board will now focus on organizing a great event in 2021."
