He was noticed after his winning double clear in 2014's Odense Nations Cup. At the same competition Dougie Douglas speeded to victory in the CSIO3* Grand Prix. With Smith he secured a win for the Great-Britain team in the Nations Cup of Rome and impressed in Hickstead.
Together with Katie Dinan Dougie Douglas continued his great form securing a second place in the CSI4* Worldcup competition in Washington. The pair finished on stage in the CSI4* 1.60m Grand Prix of Valence and in New York.
