New Olympic show jumping champion Ben Maher will have two special guests at his wedding this month - a gold medal and his wonder horse Explosion W. Maher will marry his American fiancée Sophie at home in Hertfordshire, with the gold medal now part of the family furniture and Explosion W stabled just 50 metres away.
"I don't think I will ever be able to ride a horse like Explosion again," said a clearly emotional Maher after winning Olympic gold. "He has always done everything so well: he won his first CSI5* Grand Prix at nine years old, performed very well at the European Championships, ... Last year we had a long break because of my operation and COVID but everything fell into place today. I am very happy that I get the chance to ride a horse like him. He is really once in a lifetime," he concluded.
