Juan Pablo Romero Fuentes, the founder of Los Patojos, the JustWorld International partner project in Guatemala, has been chosen as a CNN Hero. The segment airs on CNN tonight through Monday and can also be viewed online at: http://www.cnn.com/2014/07/31/world/cnnheroes-romero/. The piece showcases Romero Fuentes’ program, which provides education, nutrition, health, and cultural programs for youth ages 3-18 as well a safe place away from street violence. All of the children who attend Los Patojos come from underprivileged households that lack the necessary resources to provide these basic needs. Thanks to aid from JustWorld for the past six years, Romero Fuentes has been able to help the children of Jocotenango, providing them the skills they need to change their lives. Romero Fuentes founded Los Patojos at age 23 in his parents’ home and since then has helped over 1,000 children by offering them opportunities they otherwise would not have access to. “I am so honored to be acknowledged as a CNN Hero because I believe it is time for our community to be recognized for our alternative education program. This is the opportunity of a lifetime to make the invisible visible and to open the door for children with young minds to understand the positive aspect of life. It is time for love. It is time for action.” said Juan Pablo.
