In Lyon, the denouement of an international weekend has just taken place: the World Cup. The riders were presented with a tough course in which especially the entry of the double jump in both the jump-off and the basic course caused many problems. In the end 11 combinations managed to jump a clear round. A jump-off with eleven had to decide. Also in the jump off showed quickly that maintaining the zero was no sinecure: several combinations decided to go full for a fast time, but that was almost always punished with one or more jumping faults. Only three combinations jumped a clear jump-off and of them was Martin Fuchs the fastest.
He took all the risk with Chaplin (. Verdi TN) and eventually clocked off in 34.50 seconds. He managed to beat the time of Eduardo Pereira de Menezes. This meant that the Brazilian with his Chacco Blue stallion H5 Chaganus had to make peace with second place. Max Kühner and Elektric Blue P (by Eldorado vd Zeshoek) completed the top three after a clear round in 35.87 seconds.
Holly Smith became the fastest four-peat. She rode Denver (by Memphis) to the finish in 35.52 seconds, which earned her fourth place. Daniel Deusser and Killer Queen VDM (by Eldorado vd Zeshoek) followed in fifth place.
