The 2020 Tokyo Olympics course builder, builds the Waregem Horse Week CSI5*
For the next Olympic Games, to be held in Tokyo in 2020, the FEI has decided on who’ll be the course builder.
In Tokyo, Spanish coursebuilder, Santiago Varela will design the classes. Varela was born in 1968 in Madrid, Spain, and started his course building career in 1984 at the Club de Campo Madrid. In 1993 he promoted to an international coursebuilder.

About two decennia later, in 2013, Varela was promoted as an FEI Titel Level 4 course designer. That year he designed the first Furusiyya Nations Cup Finals in Barcelona and the FEI European Championships for Young Riders, Juniors and Children in Vejer de la Frontera. From then onwards he became one of the most qualitative course builders, building amongst others the 2016 World Cup Final in Gothenburg and the 2018 World Cup Final in Paris.

Waregem Horse Week is both delighted and proud to welcome Santi. He will for sure put the riders to the test!

Come and check out his challenging courses during the Waregem Horse Week from September 26th till 30th on the Hippodrome of Waregem!
