André Thieme and DSP Chakaria won't defend European title in Milan

André Thieme and DSP Chakaria (by Chap I) will not compete in the European Show Jumping Championship in Milan. As a result, Gerrit Nieberg and Ben will represent the German team, and Christian Kukuk and Mumbai (by Diamant de Semilly) will step in.

The European Show Jumping Championships will take place from August 29th to September 3rd in Milan, Italy. André Thieme and his mare DSP Chakaria are the reigning European champions; they won the individual gold medal and the team silver in 2021 in Riesenbeck. They were also selected for the EK in Milan as part of the German team, as chosen by team manager Otto Becker, to represent the German colors.

In consultation with the team management, André Thieme has decided not to participate in the EK due to a minor injury to his horse. "This is purely a precautionary measure. Chakaria means everything to me - her health and especially her long-term well-being are my top priorities. I'm incredibly sorry that I won't be riding for the team. It's difficult for me not to be there, but her welfare comes first," explained Thieme.

"I'm very sorry for André that he can't compete, and it's also a weakening for our team when the reigning European champion is not present," said team manager Otto Becker.

Christian Kukuk will step in and travel to Milan as an individual rider with his stallion Mumbai.
