Belgian victory in Longines FEI Nations Cup of Sweden

On the beautiful grass arena in Falsterbo, the Longines FEI Nations Cup of Sweden once again created a lot of tension. Two teams, Great Britain and Norway, remained clear in the first round, while both Belgium and the Netherlands kept a clean team sheet during the second round. In the end, the Belgian team had the strongest result and took the win.

Both the British and Norwegian teams recorded a clear team result in the first round, putting them both in the lead at the start of round two. The Belgian team took four penalty points into this round, followed by the Dutch team who also incurred one additional time penalty.

The pressure was on in round two, and with only Geir Gulliksen on Equine America Grandino H (Calvino Z) to remain clear for team Norway, they ended with a total of nine penalty points on the fourth place. Until the last two riders of Belgium and Great Britain jumped their round, there was the possibility of a jump-off between those countries. The Belgian team, consisting of Pieter Clemens, Koen Vereecke, Gilles Thomas and Wilm Vermeir kept their head cool and all jumped clear. The same could not be said of the British team, which ended up with eight penalty points on the third place. The silver medal was eventually for the Dutch team, who also put in a strong performance in the second round, and with a clear team result there, they stranded on a total of five penalty points.
