Steve Guerdat and Dynamix de Belheme are new European Champions

It was a difficult final at the FEI European Championships in Milan, Italy. After a heavy first round, Steve Guerdat took over the lead of Jens Fredricson (SWE). As last rider at the start the Swiss rider confirmed claiming the gold medal aboard Dynamix de Belheme.

In the second round of the finals the best twelve combinations returned in the ring. Dutch rider, Willem Greve was the first to start aboard his 11-year-old KWPN-horse, Highway TN (Eldorado vd Zeshoek). Greve eventually finished with five points, brining his total to 19.57 points and finishing 10th.

The first clear in the ultimate finals was set by Olympic Champion, Ben Maher and the 13-year-old KWPN-horse, Faltic HB (Baltic VDL). It was waiting until France's Julien Epaillard before a new clear round was produced. Epaillard immediately took over the lead with his 10-year-old SF-mare, Dubai du Cedre (Baloubet du Rouet). The French combination took over with 4.61 points, but had to give away the leading position to following combination Philipp Weishaupt and Zineday (Zinedine).

Jens Fredricson set three clear rounds in the first qualifiers but didn't manage to continue his great form, eventually ending outside the stage leaving pressure on final rider at the start, Steve Guerdat.

Guerdat confirms with Golden medal

In the end, Guerdat managed to keep the rails untouched and jumped to the European title with 0.43 points in total. The Swiss left Germany's Philipp Weishaupt in a silver position while, Julien Epaillard claimed bronze.
