Isabell Werth to retire after Paris 2024

German rider Isabell Werth announces that she will hang her riding boots on the hook after the Paris Olympics in three years.

With a record to beat, Werth has nothing left to prove within the sport. At the most important sporting moments in the world she was able to secure at least seven gold medals each time. She won more than twenty gold medals at European Championships, nine gold medals at World Championships and seven gold medals at the Olympic Games.

She now hopes to end her career in style in 2024:

"Paris is a turning point. Then I will be 55. Then my active career will also be over, then I will slowly but surely withdraw from top sport. I don't need to ride championships when I'm 60 and 65," she says.
