Philipp Schulze Topphoff tops 5* 1.45m class at Leipzig

With the qualifying class for the World Cup scheduled later tonight, the excitement in Leipzig is quietly building. The first 5* class of the day over 1.45m immediately put both riders and spectators in the right mood, especially after the German delegation once again delivered brilliant results.

A ranking in which no fewer than eleven German combinations jumped into the prizes was convincingly led by Philipp Schulze Topphoff. Together with the 10-year-old Westphalia mare Carla (Comme Il Faut 5), he set the fastest time of 24 clear rounds by being the only one to stay under 53 seconds. The only Frenchman in the top five, Gregory Cottard jumped to silver aboard the chestnut mare Cocaine du Val (Mylord Carthago), a good second and a half ahead of Jana Wargers and the Oldenburg mare Dorette (Dollar Du Murier).

In fourth place followed Carsten-Otto Nagel on the back of the 10-year-old gelding Drumiller True Blue (Plot Blue). The winning duo of yesterday's opening class, Mynou Diederichsmeier and the 12-year-old Oldenburg mare Choccoloca (Cador), completed this fine German top five.
