Jean François Danton's social media reports that Gilbert Doerr has passed away. He was barely sixty-four years old. The Normandy-based rider could look back on a successful sports career with several roles he filled.
Doerr was a well-known but also beloved figure in the horse (sports) world. Not only did he achieve successes in the saddle, but he was also an excellent coach and trainer of many talents. In the saddle, he was especially known on the back of Bleu Blanc Rouge II (v. Qualisco III). With Quito de Kerglenn (by Diamant de Semillyà), he participated in both national and international major competitions up to Grand Prix level. In 2001 he crowned himself French Pro 1 Champion with Reed Skin (by Romino), later he also won the Criterium Pro in 2006.
That he was good with horses was also obvious with the young horses. He was at the base of many successful horses and even delivered some at the Grande Semaine de Fontainebleau. One of his merits is undoubtedly Mister Davier, who excelled at the highest level of the sport under Julien Epaillard. In 2008 and 2009, Doerr won the championship for four-year-olds; in 2004 and 2011, he did so in the class for five-year-olds.
Doerr was a true horse man both on, off and around it. Our sincere condolences to the family as well as friends and everyone concerned by his passing.
