It has long been known that the British royal family has a special love for horses. Queen Elizabeth, whose birthday it is today, owns several horses and still regularly rides them. Her husband Prince Philip, who died a few days ago, was a fervent driver. His horses are now owned by the second youngest grandchild of the Queen and her late husband: Lady Louise Windsor. She also inherits her grandfather's carriage.
Lady Louise herself is an avid carriage rider and also competes in championships. Prince Philip was reportedly always very proud of her. In 2019, he was sported in the stands when she competed in the Royal Windsor Horse Show, where she finished in third place. Louise was also spotted holding the reins after Philip's death. Prince Philip's carriage was part of the funeral and carried his cap, whip and gloves along with a jar of sugar cubes for his horses. The horses themselves were also on the grounds of Windsor Castle during the funeral so that the carriage would pass them by once more.
