Olympic horse Brentina euthanized at the age of 31

The Olympic horse Brentina (Brentano x Lungau), also known as "America's sweetheart", has been put to sleep. The mare was 31 years old.

Brentina was ridden by Debbie McDonald, who also performed her twice at the Olympics and twice at the World Dressage Championship. The horse became America's first World Cup champion. "This horse meant everything to me, through the support of Thomas and his family and the training of Klaus a Balkenhol, Brentina became my partner and made my career in dressage, we had so many fantastic adventures!" Said McDonald.

The horse was retired in California. McDonald insists that no one ever wanted Brentina to suffer, so they made the decision to put the horse to sleep. "She no longer has to worry about her diet, now she can eat as many bananas as she wants".
