Belgium wins Nations Cup finals and Olympic Ticket in Barcelona

The Dutch riders didn't manage to prolongue the Nations Cup finals title in Barcelona. In the end it was the Belgium team winning the finals, claiming the Olympic ticket for Paris. "We managed to reach our goal," says a happy teamchef, Peter Weinberg, in the end.

For Belgium, former national champion, Koen Vereecke set the tone with a clear round aboard his Kasanova de la Pomme (Bamako de Muze). The Belgium pair delivered their team enough confidence to keep the clear rounds coming. Compatriots Gilles Thomas and Calleryama (Casall) as well as Jérome Guery aboard Quel Homme de Hus (Quidam de Revel) managed to produce a clear round.

Belgium's Gregory Wathelet and stallion, Iron Man vd Padenborre (Darco) jumped one unfortunate rail down, delivering the total of zero points. As such team Belgium claimed the Olympic ticket and victory.

On stage the French followed with four points, as pressure was building up for last French rider at the start, Kevin Staut. Together with Scuderia 1918 Viking d'La Rousseri (Quaprice Bois Margot) he kept it clear, claiming silver, leaving Switzerland in third.
