EEF endorses rescheduling of 2021 European Championships

The European Equestrian Federation (EEF) has announced that they will endorse all efforts to reschedule the championships.

The European Championships in jumping were supposed to take place in Budapest from 23 August to 5 September next tear. They were cancelled because the Olympics were postponed due to the Coronavirus. Two big championships in one year would not be possible, the FEI stated. However a lot of reaction came from riders, chef d'équipes, owners since they were not consulted in this decision-making process.

In a letter to the national federations, the EEF writes that the FEI's announcement to cancel the Europeans were followed by a number of developments. The EEF however reached a unanimous decision to endorse and support all efforts to reschedule and host the 2021 Europeans under the conditions that:

1. Horse welfare shall be paramount in any decision to be taken

2. The 2021 FEI Calendar Jumping shall be organized to accommodate and protect mainJumping events in 2021 (i.e. OG, Longines EEF Series Final, Longines FEI Nations Cup Final. For possible 2021 calendar dates, the EEF Board refers to the attached EEF WorkingGroup Jumping proposal dated 3.6.20203.

3. The EU CH shall remains a 'closed European championship'

Now it's up to the FEI to decide if the Europeans can take place or not. Read the full letter here.
