Showjumping
An overwelming show jumping final delivered an international stage. In last month's Nations Cup in Romania Finland's trained to the top for this WUEC. However the new World Champion, Tuuli Sopanen (FIN) wasn't part of that team. As she was now crowned as new World Champion Show jumping she delivered Finland a Gold Medal at the 2016 World University Equestrian Games. Sopanen's secret to victory was -according to the rider- not her riding skilles but more the connection she made with the horses. "It was a thrilling competition as the other riders all proved to be very skilled. The only tactic I could apply was trusting myself and not focussing on the other riders," states Tuuli.
Japan's Ryolchi Okihiro and Hong Kong's Clarisse De Lyra completed the stage returning home with the Silver and Gold medal.
Dressage
In an exciting final Denmark, Ireland and Japan battled for the titel in dressage. Eventually Katja Berg (DEN) claimed the win. In an interview Berg admits she was lucky to have claimed the titel. "Some of the other riders were very skilled. I am lucky I got horses who worked out for me." Ireland's Ian Cassells claimed the Silver individual and Team Medal while Kapan's Koki Nakamura took home the bronze medal.
As a team Sweden delivered a home-win. Sweden's student rider-rookies were a perfect match for the more experiences Irish team that stranded with the Silver team medal. Japan completed the dressage stage.
