In Memorium: Jaap Rijks
Jaap Rijks (NED) Olympic athlete, international Judge, former FEI Treasurer and FEI Bureau member, passed away peacefully on 10 February at his home in Wijk bij Duurstede (NED). He was 97.

Jaap Rijks was a member of the Dutch team at the London 1948 Olympic Games in the same year that he made his Nations Cup debut at CHIO Rotterdam with Romanichel. His involvement with the Olympic Movement continued in Los Angeles 1984 and Seoul 1988 where he worked as a Judge.

“Jaap was a wonderful person and dedicated many years to his function as FEI Treasurer, as well as his input as an FEI Bureau Member”, FEI Jumping Director John Roche said. “An important and knowledgeable horseman, his presence will be greatly missed by all us who were fortunate enough to come into contact with him.”

The FEI extends its sincere condolences to Jaap Rijks’ family and many friends, to the Royal Dutch Equestrian Federation and the global equestrian community.
