First draft of FEI's 2024 proposed showjumping rule changes published

Mainly the Swedish, German federations as well as the IJRC and EEF submitted proposals for adjustments. Not only in the rules regarding competitions but also regulations concerning tack. In most cases, the adjustments were referred to the general rule changes that will take place in 2025.

The German federation writes: "We recognize and welcome the fact that the FEI is addressing the use of tack and want to support the process with a concrete proposal. We do not expect it to be implemented one-to-one; it is meant to assist."

Given the challenges of the equine industry regarding their social license to operate, we want to submit a proposal to improve transparency and enforceability. A working group with experts from our NF has developed a list with general remarks and photos of bits and bridles that, in our view, should be permitted in Jumping. In our experience, publishing only what is allowed leaves less room for discussion and gives more authority to stewards; therefore, we recommend the same approach for the FEI TackApp.

The Swedish federation also focuses on the social license of the sport and therefore proposes to clearly describe the allowed use of the whip in the revised rules! They want clear wording about the allowed and not allowed use of the whip in competitions. The Swedes also request that digital courses be available for consultation at least 2 hours before the start of a trial. This way, the course can be studied in time.

Variable prize money

The IJRC explains that inflation causes the current fixed prize money tables to result in fewer competitions in Eastern Europe, South America, Africa... Therefore, they want to allow a -30% standard from the standard tables.
