Lars Kersten: "I hope I didn't spoil the Swedish party"

Lars Kersten won the Göteborg World Cup Grand Prix in spectacular fashion today. His Hallilea (by VDL Zirocco Blue) finished in 35.44 seconds. The duo thus left behind world number one Henrik von Eckermann, among others. "Riding in Gothenburg was always my dream, it is incredible that I can win my first CSI5* Grand Prix here," said a satisfied Kersten afterwards.

"To stand here in front of these two legends of the sport and win in front of such an incredible audience has always been a dream," Lars Kersten told the prize-giving ceremony. "I simply have no words for winning my first five-star Grand Prix here in Gothenburg. I hope I didn't spoil the Swedish party." But Lars did. Yet he could count on phenomenal applause from the sporting Swedish audience who realised what an extraordinary performance Lars had achieved.

"It's incredible. My mare Hallilea jumped great, to win the World Cup here in Gothenburg is really very special," Lars informed FEI TV. "This is my first win in a five-star Grand Prix. I have had many good placings before and this is really the first. This feels so special. I have a Swedish girlfriend and of course she is here with her family," he concludes.
