Shulman Desiderio and Schulze Sweep the Open Jumpers to Kick Off at Old Salem Farm

The Old Salem Farm International Arena reopened Wednesday morning with the $2,000 Open Jumper 1.25m, where Sydney Shulman Desiderio of Greenwich, CT, blazed to victory aboard Luna Llena, Thomas Dupoux’s 8-year-old Dutch Warmblood mare. The $4,000 Open Jumper 1.35m presented by Great American Insurance Company immediately followed, with Audrey Schulze of Saddle River, NJ, and Dalakann De Bremoy, a 9-year-old Selle Français mare owned by Riverbrook Sport Horses LLC, taking top honors.

“(Dalakann De Bremoy) was the horse that I won the 1.40m Speed Derby on last week, and today’s course was really great,” Schulze said. “I’m really excited to have two wins in a row with her since we’re still figuring each other out. I’m really getting to know her these weeks, and I’m really looking forward to the future with her. The speed section wasn’t that long today, so there weren’t that many opportunities to go too fast, but in the end we stayed on it and got the best time.”

Trained by Shulman Desiderio, Schulze returned shortly after for the $10,000 Open Jumper 1.40m presented by Amethyst Equestrian, claiming a third victory for their farm aboard Riverbrook Sport Horses LLC’s 10-year-old Holsteiner gelding Lord Up. With all three courses having similar elements, Schulze already knew how some of the 1.40m class would ride.

“We had some different strategies in the warm-up for my two horses since they’re two different types of rides, but the same strategy of going fast once we were in the ring,” Schulze said. “This horse (Lord Up) I’ve had for a little over a year and rode in the Junior Jumpers last year. This year I went pro, so I’ve started to jump him in the Open classes. He’s been really great stepping up to the next level.”
