Spencer Smith Wins $37,000 Restylane® 1.45m FEI Welcome at Split Rock Jumping Tour’s Columbus International II CSI2*

Spencer Smith rode Ayade Hero Z to victory in the $37,000 Restylane® 1.45m Welcome class at the Split Rock Jumping Tour’s (SRJT) Columbus International II CSI2*. The event continues through Sunday at the Brave Horse Equestrian Center, operating under COVID-19 protocols and guidelines with approvals from the State of Ohio, FEI and USEF.

Out of a starting field of 84 horses, Smith was one of 16 to reach the tiebreaking jump-off by riding without penalty over the 16-jump, first-round course designed by Oscar Soberon. Six entries then turned in another clean round over the 8-jump, jump-off course with Smith claiming the win with the fastest time of 34.260 seconds. Placing second was Rowan Willis with zero faults and a time of 35.520 on Ekita Eindeken Z with third going to Karl Cook who finished with zero faults in 36.330 seconds on Caillou 24. “This is a great venue (Brave Horse Equestrian Center)," said Smith. Show jumping in America is getting strong. I feel very lucky.”

Friday’s schedule also featured the $5,000 Horseflight 1.40m Winning Round which was won by Victoria Colvin on Absolhut with second going to Dutch Olympic veteran Harrie Smolders on Calina.

The Columbus International II CSI2* is hosting a full schedule of show jumping classes ranging in height from .85m to 1.45m with classes for juniors, amateurs and top professionals. The schedule includes three FEI classes highlighted by the week’s culminating event, the $100,000 1.45m FEI Grand Prix on Sunday. Other weekend highlights include the $20,000 Restylane® 1.35m National Prix on Saturday.

“We have an amazing turnout of top horses and riders here and I think that is a testament to the kind of horse shows we put on,” said Split Rock Jumping Tour Founder and CEO Derek Braun. “I want to thank everyone for their support as we continue to take the sport of show jumping to a higher level!”
