In Sankt Gallen the international CSIO5* program concluded with the first leg of the Longines FEI Nations Cup season for the Western -European League. For the first time in 22 years the Swiss team managed to take a home-win, taking the lead in the FEI Nations Cup ranking.
It was an exciting competition until the final rider at the start. For Great-Britain John Whitaker and Unick du Francport (Open Up Semilly) were the last to make an entrance. If the pair produced a clear round it would have been a Jump-Off between Great-Britain and Switzerland. Unfortunately for Whitaker one rail fell down, making the home win for the Swiss team final.
The Swiss team showed yet again their supremacy finishing with only 8 fault. Reigning European champion, Martin Fuchs managed to produce a double clear aboard his 10-year-old Leone Jei (Baltic VDL). The combination earlier already won the Grand Prix in Sankt Gallen on Saturday.
At home soil also Steve Guerdat and Venard de Cerisy (Open Up Semilly), Pius Schwizer and his 13-year-old Vancouver de Lanlore (Le Tot de Semilly) and Edouard Schmitz with Quno (Quo Vados I) took the start. Guerdat didn't even have to start his final round to secure the win.
On stage Jos Lansink's team and FEI Nations Cup defenders, the Netherlands followed in second while team Great-Britain claimed the third spot.
After this leg, Switzerland takes the lead of the Western-European League with 100 points. Only seven combinations will be allowed to compete at the FEI Nations Cup finals in Barcelona later this year.
