The impact of lockdown on horse management

Research has proven the impact of the coronavirus on owners and yards. The investigation hopes to help horse owner and the future.

Findings say that a third of owners are worried they will suffer financial troubles which may affect welfare. Only a third of the yards has provided owners with guidance on the situation. “It’s clear there is an impact on owners that is progressing, and we want to mitigate any panic,” he said. “The biggest thing is a lack of information, or misleading information that tends to circulate more than ‘good’ information", Dr Marlin, head of the survey says.

Other findings included that almost 2/3 of the horse owners are still riding, dough the British Equestrian Federation has advised not to ride, unless strictly necessary. More than 80% of the yards has introduced social distancing, more than 50% had taken other steps as well.
