Olympian Peter Leone Wins the Vita Flex Tackroom Award at the 2017 Winter Equestrian Festival
There is a fine line between good and great – and to Vita Flex® and Olympic Team Silver Medalist Peter Leone, the way to cross that line is all in the details. The premium equine supplement company Vita Flex® is committed to developing top-notch supplements that give performance horses the competitive edge that they require to perform their best. Top riders like Peter Leone understand that attention to detail translates into success in competition – not just in giving horses the right supplements, but also in everything down to the layout and efficiency of stabling areas. After observing the stabling area of Lionshare Farm, owned by Leone, at the 2017 Winter Equestrian Festival in Wellington, Florida, Vita Flex presented Lionshare Farm with the Vita Flex Tackroom Award.

Leone’s meticulous attention to detail seems to foster success in everything he does – from the training of his Grand Prix show jumpers to the organization of his barn’s tackroom. Vita Flex was proud to reward such a dedicated and talented equestrian with the Vita Flex Tackroom Award, which debuted this year at the Winter Equestrian Festival. Vita Flex uses this award to honor trainers who maintain an attractive and highly organized stable area, which reflects Vita Flex’s own attention to detail in creating effective performance supplements for horses. Award winners receive a custom Vita Flex bridle rack, a sumptuous ribbon with gold-fringed streamers, and a tub of Vita Flex® Acculytes™.

“Attention to detail and doing things correctly is critically important to being successful with horses, and it's a very easy thing to do if you have the discipline and commitment to doing it. There's no reason not to have a commitment to detail, correct horsemanship, correct management, and use of equipment,” the veteran show jumper explained. “My tack room is just an indication of the kind of detail and correctness that takes place inside my show jumping operation," said Leone.

Leone uses Vita Flex products as part of his regular regimen, and was excited to try his prize Acculytes™, which came in Vita Flex’s newest Acculyte flavor – gingersnap. This supplement is an electrolyte formula, which Leone can use to help his horses recover from the rigors of competition. “We enjoy Vita Flex products and believe in them,” the Olympian stated.

Peter Leone’s own winning formula continues to pay off in the show ring – in addition to his Olympic team silver medal for the United States in 1996, he has achieved high placings in six World Cup finals. He has competed for the United States in the World Championships as well as in over 20 Nations Cups. “I'm really committed to the success and future of the U.S. team at championship level jumping,” Leone said.

“After 20-plus years, I’m now modifying my coaching and teaching business to just upper-level riders on their way to international jumping,” said Leone. Before returning north to his home base in Greenwich, Connecticut, Leone will compete throughout the duration of the Winter Equestrian Festival with Wayfarer and Capito Z, alongside the rest of the Lionshare Farm team of horses and riders. Leone has been making the winter commute to the Winter Equestrian Festival since 1976. As his training business evolves, the details that will remain the same are his commitment to setting riders and their horses up for success by helping them cross the fine line between good and great.
