Harrie Smolders: "As a rider you work 8 days a week, 24h a day ..."

Apart from his many exceptional result we do not read a lot of him in the media. Probably he is to busy with coaching his pupils all over the world or even busier riding horses. Although he prefers beging home with his wife and kids, he makes some time. "Time is precious and we have to appreciate it."

The key to success? "We just do what we are used to do. It actually goes very well as it goes. Sometimes it does go better as expected but I am lucky to be able to count on a nice string of horses and I work every day to keep them in shape. Always trying to improve myself and my horses and 'us' as a combination."

World Championships Herning

"I am happy how things are going, but more, I am happy how the cookie crumbles for the Dutch showjumping sport. The Olympic individual medal of Maikel van der Vleuten has contributed to the current success flow we are in with the Dutch sport. That is amazing. That is why I do favor our chances at the upcoming World Championships in Herning. We will have to work hard, but there is potential. We can count on strong riders, horses and an experienced and respected coach."

No place like home

Harrie has competed in almost every competition around the world. But what is his favorite place to go?.... "There's no place like home ! To be honest, we jumping riders work eight days a week, 24 hours a day to produce our horses to the highest level. It doesn't matter where you do the work, winning is a great feeling wherever you are. But there's no place like home..."
