The cross country day on Sunday at the CIC2* in Twenge, Germany was overshadowed by a tragic accident. Bernd Backhaus crashed with his Herr Poitzmann after jumping an obstacle that hard that the horse could not get up and eventually had to be euthanized. The rider was unhurt nevertheless the incident caused once more discussions regarding the risk of eventing.Olympic champion Sandra Auffarth won the CIC2* aboard the twelve-year-old The Blue Frontier. With a total of 40.40 penalty points she secured the first place for Andreas Dibowski with Hans Dampf (45,30 penalty points) and Josefa Sommer with Henry (53,00). Auffarth was also victorious in the CIC one star on the seven year old Kilian.
