Looking back on 2020: the best shows of the past year

Before the start of 2020, the competition calendar was well filled with CSI5* competitions in Brussels, Knokke, Geneva, Den Bosch, Mechelen, .... Unfortunately Corona decided differently and we saw the competition calendar get smaller by the week. Still, there are a number of organizers who dared to set up a large (or less large) competition. In our opinion, these are the best competitions of 2020!

Normally this would be a list of the five best competitions of the past year, but today we decided to change tack. Our editors believe that everyone who dared to organize a competition this year deserves to be honored. These were very uncertain times for everyone. And whether you organized a CSI5* competition like the one in Saint-Tropez, or a regional competition for ponies, the organizers of these competitions are all heroes. Thanks to these organizers, our sport could take place again. These organizers made sure that we could enter the competition ring again, even if only for a moment.

Several national championships could take place, even if it was behind closed doors. The various cycles for young horses have had their passage, giving tomorrow's talents the chance to develop during this shortened season. In the south, tours were organized where riders could jump for a few weeks in a row, Nations Cups were jumped and also in the Netherlands and Belgium, the competition calendar was not inferior to that in Spain or Portugal where it was possible to jump outside for a longer period of time.

The rules around competitions were not always clear and often changed from day to day. All organizers used their creativity and organizational talent to respond to these changing situations. They did not allow themselves to be discouraged and always fought. That's why, in our opinion, every competition organized this year is the best competition of 2020.

That is why the team of Equnews wants to congratulate ALL organizers this year for their commitment and guts. Thanks to you, we too can continue to work and write. Keep on doing what you are doing, because together we will make it through.
