Marcus Ehning: 'It's going to be very hard to find another 'Comme Il Faut'"

Marcus Ehning’s Comme Il Faut, the now 16-year-old son of two legends, Cornet Obolensky and Ratina Z, did his last lap of honor at Riesenbeck International on Saturday afternoon.  ”Comme Il Faut is a horse I will always remember in a nice way,” Ehning says. ”There are not many horses with his kind of mentality and fighting spirit. He is a confident horse, he has his own character  -in a good way – and I think everyone who ever saw him in the competition ring, could see how much he enjoyed the sport.”

”There were some incredible jump-offs I rode with him,” Ehning tells about his fondest memories with the stallion. ”Two times in Brussels, where he won two big classes and the World Cup in Madrid, which has been seen by over two million people. And of course the team silver medal at the 2019 Europeans in Rotterdam.”  Born on the 20th of April in 2005 at Ludger Beerbaum Stables in Riesenbeck and owned by the Ukrainian Gestüt Zhaschkow, Comme Il Faut is an approved breeding stallion for Westfalen, Holstein, Hannover, Oldenburg, Bayern, KWPN and Selle Francais.

With Marcus Ehning in the saddle, the stallion won a team silver at the 2019 European Championships in Rotterdam and placed fifth individually. They also won the World Cup in Madrid in 2016, topped the Global Champions Tour Grand Prix of Vienna in 2016, the three-star Grand Prix of Paderborn in 2016, the five-star Grand Prix of Chantilly in 2018 and 2019, the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona in 2018 and the five-star Grand Prix of Brussels in 2018. During his career, the stallion won over 1,6 million Euros of prize money. Comme Il Faut will spend his well-deserved retirement days at his owner’s stables in Ukraine, and fresh semen will be available through Deckstation Vornholt.
