Two horses euthanized in Florida
Following an accident at Florida's Tampa Bay Downs racecourse, three jockeys were hospitalized and two horses euthanized. Six-year-old Wild Kiss, who was ridden by Keiber Coa, broke down while leading the 12-horse field. Four-year-old Iron Media, ridden by Silvia Zapico, was unable to avoid Wild Kiss and took a tumble as well.

Tampa Bay Downs reported that both horses had to be euthanized. A third horse, four-year-old Traffic Telling, ridden by Ricardo Mejias, went down as a result of the accident as well, but did not appear injured. Coa, Zapico and Mejias were taken to St Joseph’s Hospital Trauma Center with various injuries. The racetrack reported that Coa had a broken collarbone, Zapico a broken leg, and Mejias an injured wrist.

This incident might again question the conditions for horses in horse racing, or equestrian sports in general...
