2018 Officials Announced for 48th Annual Menlo Charity Horse Show

The Menlo Charity Horse Show benefiting Vista Center for the Blind and Visually Impaired is pleased to announce the 2018 Judge and Course Designer roster for the August 7-12 event at the Menlo Circus Club in Atherton, California.

The six-day USEF heritage competition with a distinguished history of philanthropy, has long been recognized as one of the top horse shows in the country by the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame. Designated as a USHJA World Champion Hunter Rider Competition, MCHS plays host to the USHJA WCHR South West Regional Awards Ceremony.

2018 Hunter Judges

Mike Rosser

Mike has been an “R” judge for the USEF (United States Equestrian Federation) for 25 years and is also a judge for AQHA (American Quarter Horse Association). He has judged many prestigious horse shows including Devon, Capital Challenge, WEF, Menlo Charity Horse Show, Washington International and the Royal Winter Fair.

Mike and Alicia Rosser have owned and operated Reynard’s Ridge located in Southern Pines, North Carolina. For over 30 years they have been teaching, training, foxhunting and showing successfully. Mike was awarded the NCHJA (North Carolina Hunter Jumper Association) Horseman of the year in 1998 and again in 2007.

Jim Toon

Always in demand as a judge, Jim has judged at the following horse shows from Florida to Oregon, California to Maine and Canada: The AHSA Medal Finals, The ASPCA Maclay Finals, Zone 1 and Zone 2 Maclay Regionals, The Southeast Regionals, The New England Medal Finals, The Rhode Island Medal Finals, The New Hampshire Medal Finals, The Hampton Classic, Palm Beach, Indio and Ocala

As owner and operator of JT Farm in South Salem, NY, Jim Toon’s extensive horse show experience as a rider and the keen eye he has developed as an AHSA "R" judge enables him to determine the best procedure to be taken with each rider and horse. He then works very closely with his staff to attain the pre-determined riding goals of each student as well as the training of each horse.

Jack Towell

Jack Towell began his career as a hunter/jumper trainer at the age of 17. After graduating from Catawba College in Salisbury, North Carolina, Jack returned to the horse world and became one of the most successful trainers and developers of young riding talent in the country. Most recently, he was inducted into the National Show Hunter Hall of Fame in the Class of 2016.

As owner and operator of Finally Farm in Camden, South Carolina, Jack has earned numerous accomplishments as trainer of more than 75 champions and reserve champions at the Devon Horse Show (Pennsylvania), Capital Challenge (Maryland) and the East Coast fall indoor shows, including the Pennsylvania National, the Washington (D.C.) International and the National horse shows.

Jack is the only trainer to be named the Pennsylvania National Horse Show Leading Junior Hunter Trainer four times, four-time trainer of the overall World Champion Junior Hunter Rider, and is one of the only trainers in the country to train a Champion or Reserve Champion in every division at the year-end fall indoor shows.

2018 Course Designers

Jumper Course Designer

Bernardo Costa Cabral

Bernardo Costa Cabral was born in Lisbon Portugal in 1975. At the age of 9 he started to ride, always with ambition to compete in show jumping. He was a medium rider, with some results on youth categories, but still at young age felt a special attraction for course designing, due much to the influence of the great course designer Bob Ellis, when he started to go and design in Portugal. Bernardo was 14.

In 2015, at the age of 40, Bernardo was promoted to FEI Level 4 Course Designer “O” status by FEI jumping committee as well as being appointed as Official Technical Delegateby the FEI for Children, Juniors and Young Riders European Championships in Wiener Neustad (AUT). In addition, Bernardo built courses at the CSI 5* W Olympia (GBR), CSI 4* and CSI 2* Bolsworth (GBR), CSI 3* Vilamoura (POR), CSI 3* Baltica Tour (POL), among many others.

Nowadays Bernardo builds in countries such as USA, Dubai, Great Britain, Belgium (2016), Poland, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Spain and Portugal. In 2015 he did over 32 shows as Main Course Designer, 21 of which were outside of Portugal.

Hunter Course Designer

Eric Mayberry

A resident of Sarasota, Florida, Eric Mayberry has been involved in the horse industry for over 30 years. For over a decade of those years, Eric owned and operated Equestrian Endeavors Show Stables, Inc. a successful Hunter/Jumper business in Sarasota.

Eric is a “R” Course Designer in both Hunters and Jumpers, and has built courses for such distinguished shows as the Hampton Classic, Germantown Charity Horse Show, Trader’s Point, Pin Oak Charity Horse Show, Franktown Meadows Hunter Derby and the Chagrin Hunter Jumper Classic to name a few.
