All of us on Madden Mountain are saddened to announce that Mr. and Mrs. Patton’s stallion Conquest II was laid to rest today, a week after his 28th birthday.
Conquest, known around the barn as Stumpy for his small stature, was a firecracker of a jumper and partner to Beezie for many years until his retirement in 2008. Conquest was a top competitor, winning the 2002 $100,000 Washington Grand Prix, countless speed classes, Gambler’s Choices, and taking part in several gold medal winning CSIO Nation’s Cup Teams, including being on the US Gold Medal team at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.
Conquest enjoyed 11 years of retirement on Madden Mountain, where he ruled the farm with his antics and personality. We probably aren’t supposed to have favorites, but that being said, he was a favorite to all who met or cared for him. We know that Brian James and Marybeth Cyr-Hatch will be waiting to meet him at heaven’s gate today, where he will immediately get that glint in his eye, stand on two legs and refuse to be caught or come in, until he’s good and ready.
If you’ve got a spicy little chestnut in your barn, give them an extra carrot today for us, in honor of our Stumpy.
