Beezie Madden is the first lady rider to win the Longines King George V Gold Cup at Hickstead. In 2008 the class was for the first time in history open for riders of both sexes, but it has taken seven runnings for a female rider to claim the victory. Madden won aboard her 12-year-old gelding Cortes C.
The USA's Nations Cup-gold winner is happy after her victory. "I can't believe how much Cortes C has done this week," states the American. 19-year-old Bertram Allen and Romanov followed in the runner-up spot. The stage was completed by Germany's Marcus Ehning riding Plot Blue.
In total 14 riders from eight countries claimed a place in the jump-off. Further Australia's James Paterson-Robinson (Boris III), Shane Breen (Golden Hawk) and Laura Kraut (Nouvelle) had a double clear round.
