Laura Renwick jumps to glory in Vilamoura

A multi-winner the previous week, Laura Renwick bounced back to form in Vilamoura, Portugal, to take victory in the top £8 1.45m two-phase on Bintang II. 


The pair held off the challenges of 94 other competitors, the Tangelo Van De Zuuthoeve/Oprlando 11-year-old – bred by the Bleekman family in Devon – finishing with 0.45 sec in hand. 


Harry Charles jumped into equal fourth on the 10-year-old Controe after breaking the beam at exactly the same time as Ireland’s Jeremy Sweetman on Sir Landal Joter.  Harriet Nuttall eased the Romanov/Lux nine-year-old Galway Bay Jed into eighth with Billy Twomey in ninth on Kim Barzilay’s home-bred Je T’Aime Flamenco eight-year-old Kimba Flamenco.  Alex Rident was also clear for 21st on Ucello Massuere. 


Chloe Aston continued on her winning ways with the ultra-consistent five-year-old stallion Magic Chanti, heading the five-year-old speed for the third consecutive time this week with a 4.54 sec advantage.  Abbe Elliott was more than five sec in arrears for third on the coloured mare Hamberlins Vera and Tom Lloyd guided Shakira into fourth.


Flo Norris was a winner in the 1.10m, taking the 28-strong speed class by 3.66 sec on the Douglas/Oklund nine-year-old Darling HDH. Four faults dropped India Payne down to 14th with Eleonora III.


Jess Mendoza slotted NP Zelah into fifth in the 3* 1.35m two-phase, the El-Thuder nine-year-old proving two and half sec behind the pace. Jamie Gornall eased the Cartani 11-year-old Christian 25 into 10th and Billy Twomey was also clear on the Lord Z eight-year-old Lady Lou for 12th.


Giorgia Distefano jumped into seventh place in the 3* 1.30m two-phase with Cassia DS, the eight-year-old Cassiano daughter finishing 2.37 sec behind the pace. George Holder was also double clear on Kingstar for 13th.


Charlotte Meikle claimed fourth and fifth in the 1.20m on the 13-year-old Quasimodo Z stallion Zicero D and the 19-year-old Ronaldo, almost five sec behind the pace. Richard Jenkinson eased Culto into eighth with Jess also clear on Kyara Van’t Breezerhof for 10th place.
