Maikel van Mierlo speeds to victory in 1* Grand Prix
Holland’s Maikel van Mierlo won the CSI1* Grand Prix with his KWPN mare Gycara. Maikel was really happy with his victory.

“This horse is doing very well, she has a much drive, she is a real fighter and focussed,” according to Maikel. Maikel runs the Van Mierlo Handelsstal Koningslust together with his parents and they train horses to sell. The eight-year-old mare is co-owned by the Van Mierlo family and the breeder. Marcus Ehning is Maikel’s hero: “I have a lot of respect for his calm and the way he rides.” Sander Geerink, who won the five-year-old final earlier today, finished runner-up with Unfinity Bois Margot. Germany’s Franziska Zimmermann took third place with Diamant.

The Small Tour (1.15m) was won by Britain’s Tess Carmichael and her 10-year-old KWPN gelding E. Harley. E.Harley is homebred so Tess knows him since he was born. She broke him herself and trained him upto this level. Tess has also ridden his dam. “He is my baby and very spoiled. I compete him for three years now and he has a very good attitude, he is smart and cooperative. Belgium’s Lander Swinnen finished runner-up with Livingstone E followed by Germany’s Franziska Zimmermann and Dark Dalida in third place.

The victory in the Medium Tour went to Britain’s Chloe Winchester and Don Corleone III Z. Jake Hunter from Australia finished runner-up with Gigi and the winner of the 1* Grand Prix, Maikel van Mierlo, took third place with Hummertime.
